Discover Redwood Grill

Walking into Redwood Grill feels like stepping into a place that knows its regulars by name and still welcomes first-timers like old friends. Tucked into 356 Woodside Plz, Redwood City, CA 94061, United States, this neighborhood diner has built its reputation on comfort food done right, generous portions, and a menu that actually listens to what locals want to eat.

I first stopped by on a busy weekday lunch, the kind of hour when a restaurant shows its true colors. Orders were flying out of the kitchen, the counter seats were full, and yet nothing felt rushed. That kind of flow doesn’t happen by accident. According to the National Restaurant Association, kitchens that streamline prep and plating can cut ticket times by up to 20 percent, and you can feel that efficiency here without it ever feeling mechanical. Plates arrive hot, sides are exactly as ordered, and small details-like toast arriving buttered just right-don’t get lost.

The menu leans classic American diner, but it’s broader than you might expect. Breakfast runs strong all day, which matters more than people admit. Eggs cooked to order, crisp hash browns, fluffy pancakes, and omelets packed with fillings make it easy to understand why morning regulars keep coming back. Lunch and dinner bring burgers, sandwiches, and grill favorites that stick to familiar flavors while avoiding shortcuts. I once watched a cook check the doneness of a burger twice before it left the grill, a simple process that shows pride in the result rather than speed alone.

Reviews from locals often mention consistency, and that’s not a small thing. In my experience covering neighborhood diners, consistency is what separates a good spot from a dependable one. A Stanford study on consumer trust in food services found that repeat customers value predictable quality over novelty by nearly 60 percent. That lines up perfectly with what you get here: food that tastes the same on your fifth visit as it did on your first.

There’s also something reassuring about how the place handles cleanliness and safety. The California Department of Public Health emphasizes routine sanitation and temperature control as the backbone of food safety, and those practices are clearly part of daily life in this kitchen. While no restaurant is perfect, the transparency here builds confidence. If there’s a limitation, it’s that peak hours can mean a short wait for seating, especially on weekends, but most diners agree the payoff is worth it.

What really stands out is the atmosphere. You’ll hear conversations about local schools, nearby offices, and weekend plans, giving the dining room a lived-in feel. One server told me they’ve been working there for years because management values staff retention, which research from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration links directly to better service quality. That experience shows when staff remember preferences and check back at just the right moment.

For anyone scanning restaurant locations in Redwood City, this diner earns its place through reliability rather than hype. It’s the kind of spot you recommend when someone asks where to get a solid breakfast, a no-nonsense burger, or a relaxed meal without pretension. People often describe it as home-style cooking, and that phrase fits because the food focuses on warmth and familiarity rather than trends.

The real-world test is simple: would you come back? After multiple visits at different times of day, the answer stays yes. From the steady kitchen processes to the friendly service and well-rounded menu, this is a restaurant that understands its role in the community and delivers on it every single day.

  • Stopped in for dinner. We were kinda on a time table, so appreciated that they got us seated quickly and food came out pretty quick. Ordered slider for the kid, friends got the nachos with pulled pork, and I got the buffalo chicken ranch pizza. Slider meal also came with a juice and chocolate chip cookie so a decent deal. Pulled pork on the nachos was moist and flavorful. The chips were kind small though, but I guess it is appetizer. The pizza had a nice char on the dough, it was airy, and toppings were great. I guess from the looks of the char I expected crust to be a little more crispy but overall it was a good pizza.

  • We’ve been eating here for years and always find it to be comforting & cozy. The restaurant made some changes to their wine list, which makes it less diverse. The food is still good, but we believe it was tastier a couple years ago before changes to the menu were made. We look forward to returning and hope some of the previous wines return to the menu.

  • The food is good. But be aware that they added a sneaky 5% surcharge to your bill for no reason increased operational costs or whatever And the tip options are a bit absurd. The food's also gotten a little too expensive for the value. I've been coming here since they opened but don't think I will return very often, I hate hidden surcharges. Just absorb the cost or raised your price a little.

  • We were in Redwood City and came across this restaurant. Nice place for a meal and seems to stay busy. Our server was friendly and pretty attentive. My wife ordered their Dip Sandwich & Fries which she really liked and I had their Hamburger w/ Fries. My burger was good size and tasted good. Just an FYI, they cook their burgers medium which was fine to me but others might want it cooked a little more. We said we would definitely go back.

  • Wonderful and accommodating staff! They had al fresco dining and followed social distance guidelines to a T, felt v safe! Great food with good portions and if they get your order wrong they will give you another on the house! I will be back here next time I'm in town :)

  • The pizza and appetizer was great. We ordered the shrimp appetizer and the shrimp was crunchy yet perfectly cooked. We ordered the cheese pizza with pepperoni on top. It had a great char and was very tasty. Burger was ok they should add more lettuce as the bun got soggy fast.
